MELIS - An Incremental Method for the Lexical Annotation of Domain Ontologies
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we present MELIS (Meaning Elicitation and Lexical Integration System), a method and a software tool for enabling an incremental process of automatic annotation of local schemas (e.g. relational database schemas, directory trees) with lexical information. The distinguishing and original feature of MELIS is its incrementality: the higher the number of schemas which are processed, the more background/domain knowledge is cumulated in the system (a portion of domain ontology is learned at every step), the better the performance of the systems on annotating new schemas. MELIS has been tested as component of MOMIS-Ontology Builder, a framework able to create a domain ontology representing a set of selected data sources, described with a standard W3C language wherein concepts and attributes are annotated according to the lexical reference database. We describe the MELIS component within the MOMIS-Ontology Builder framework and provide some experimental results of MELIS as a standalone tool and as a component integrated in MOMIS.

An Incremental Method for Meaning Elicitation of a Domain Ontology
Internet has opened the access to an overwhelming amount of data, requiring the development of new applications to automatically recognize, process and manage information available in web sites or web-based applications. The standard Semantic Web architecture exploits ontologies to give a shared (and known) meaning to each web source elements. In this context, we developed MELIS (Meaning Elicit...

Background and Aim: Ontologies facilitate data integration, exchange, searching and querying. Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) Foundry is a solution for creating reference ontologies. In this foundry, the design of ontologies is based on established principles which allow for their interactions as a single system. The purpose of this study is to determine the main features of ontologies develop...
متن کاملPresenting a method for extracting structured domain-dependent information from Farsi Web pages
Extracting structured information about entities from web texts is an important task in web mining, natural language processing, and information extraction. Information extraction is useful in many applications including search engines, question-answering systems, recommender systems, machine translation, etc. An information extraction system aims to identify the entities from the text and extr...
متن کاملLinguistically Light Lexical Extensions for Ontologies
An increasing number of enterprises are beginning to include semantic web ontologies into their Information Extraction (IE) and Text Analytics (TA) applications. This can be challenging for a TA group wishing to avail of semantic web ontologies due to the manual effort of retargeting and tailoring language resources within the TA system to a new domain to meet customer needs. A lightweight lexi...
متن کاملAutomatic Workflow Generation and Modification by Enterprise Ontologies and Documents
This article presents a novel method and development paradigm that proposes a general template for an enterprise information structure and allows for the automatic generation and modification of enterprise workflows. This dynamically integrated workflow development approach utilises a conceptual ontology of domain processes and tasks, enterprise charts, and enterprise entities. It also suggests...
